How does a practitioner become part of such a centre?
All N.H.C Ltd members’ entrance depends on their acceptance of a system known as "Peer Review".
Peer Review is a process where a member consents to being reviewed retrospectively or concurrently by an elected group of peers.
The aim of Peer Review is to ensure that all N.H.C Ltd Medical Service Providers practice according to one standard of high quality health care. This process reviews: claims sent to medical aids, prescribing habbits and referral processes to specialists.
For example, if the peer review committee determines that 90% of colleagues are prescribing a certain type of product (drug) for a certain condition, they will approach the other 10% after studying their patients’ health position. If these outcomes are not as good as the other 90% doctors’ patients, this 10% will be, approached to follow the newest protocol on treatment of this diagnosis as developed by the peer review committee to ensure a better outcome for the N.H.C Ltd patient.

We prefer and recommend that our patients make use of our dispensing doctor network, our N.H.C Health Centre
pharmacies and any other pharmacy that is part of the N.H.C Ltd Network.
A formulary is a list of medicines that is determined through a selection process that evaluates both cost and
efficiency through measuring outcomes, sometimes referred to as "evidence based medicine".
The aim of the formulary is to reduce the vast numbers of medicines carried in our pharmacies and dispensing doctor network.
The single biggest advantage of the use of a formulary is that it standardises what product is being prescribed for a
particular diagnosis. This ensures the development of a highly effective prescribing pattern within our group of members
and facilitates the studies necessary to ensure that the most effective products are prescribed to our patients.
The panel selection process of products includes representation from pharmaceutical manufacturers, the pharmacists, medical
schemes, the Academy of Family Practice and the N.H.C Ltd doctors.
Quality Pathology Services is a service division of N.H.C Ltd serviced by Ampath Laborotories, who can also be found in all the N.H.C Health Centres. This company has over the last 9 years continued to support the community through N.H.C Ltd. community assistance programs.
We provide a full consultation service, supplying of all Orthopaedic products and appliances. A qualified Orthotist Prosthetist
is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the N.H.C Emergency and Casualty/Trauma Centres.
A consultation service is available at all the N.H.C Health Centres on an appointment basis and a qualified Orthotist Prosthetist
is on call 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.
